ENSURING YOU’RE PROPERLY PROTECTED.
After an abortion, many women are eager to start using birth control so that they can prevent having another pregnancy in the near future. But how soon is too soon?
Provided that there were no complications and the abortion was a success, you can start using birth control immediately after your abortion so that you are protected against pregnancy.
This is one of those instances where it doesn’t pay to wait. While your body may feel like it’s still readjusting, your fertility levels return rapidly. You can start ovulating in the first weeks after an abortion, which is the part of your cycle when you’re at the greatest risk of getting pregnant.
Almost any method can be started immediately after an abortion. If you don’t feel ready to commit to a contraceptive or are using a natural plan- ning method, we highly recommend that you use a back-up option like con- doms – at least until you speak to your healthcare provider.
If your recent pregnancy was the result of your contraception failing you and you’re keen to try something more effective, compare methods (link: https://www.mycontraception.com/compare-methods - anchor to Effectiveness tab) to see what suits you.
With so many methods to choose from, hopefully you can find something that offers the efficiency and peace of mind you’re looking for.
All the best,
